Alan Scofield co-founded Young Imaginations in 1987 and has created many significant model arts education projects in Northern California public schools. His teaching has touched the lives of thousands of public-school children with programs that foster creative learning, movement and mindfulness. As an arts educator, he helps classroom teachers, parents and school districts develop innovative lessons that teach core state standards in dance, music, math, social studies, history, science and language. Active learning such as this results in the joy of creative discovery. His curriculum for grade levels K through 5th grade reflect the current state standards for arts integration.
Especially important in Scofield’s approach to teaching is the practice of teamwork and critical thinking during activities. Students are challenged to work well with others, ask questions that lead to improvement and measure group success.
About Our Programs
Your school can host grade level appropriate programs designed for 8 weeks, a semester, or for the entire school year. These programs are designed to provide multicultural awareness, mind body connection, and an active arts-based curriculum. We are trained in a comprehensive method that addresses all the dimensions of a child’s learning.
This program will provide an introduction to the language, narrative voice and structure of storytelling, encouraging each student to discover their own world of imagination and use language to express it.
Through the arts, children can experience more than the virtual image of other cultures and discover through experience, the traditions, similarities and differences of other societies.
Arts education is more than creative self-expression. Research tells us that it potentiates the brain. Music and dance both engage sensory stimulation that improves cognition, as well as inspiring empathy and improving emotional skills.
Dance engages children and connects them to many branches of academic learning. Geography, History, English and Math are just a few of the solid subjects that dance can enliven with new dimensions of awareness.
