About Alan
Alan Scofield is a nationally respected master teacher and choreographer in dance and an educational innovator in arts integration. Educators, businesses, and youth groups have enthusiastically sought his creative motivation and storytelling for team building and leadership, prizing his unorthodox but highly effective movement workshops.
As an educator, he touched the lives of a generation of public school children, teachers, communities, and foundations, and is now sharing his creative teaching techniques to today’s educators. The Marin Community Foundation, in association with Excellence in Arts Education, has tapped Alan to teach workshops, teacher in-service, and design integrated teaching units. Sacramento and Sonoma State Universities have hired Alan for workshops with music teachers to impart his ideas on creative movement in the classroom.
He has created workshops for educators and businesses such as Kaiser and Hallmark, passing on his techniques in team building and creative motivation, leadership, and storytelling.
In 1987 he co-founded Young Imaginations, Northern California’s acclaimed arts-education agency that has kept music and dance programs alive in the public schools for twenty-six years. For college-level students, his teaching and stage work at the College of Marin has provided students a pathway to the professions of dance education and performing. His master classes feature his original studio course, “Musicality for Dancers”, acclaimed as a marriage of classical technique with performance expression.
With a digital presence, Alan Scofield and his wife Sharon, are co-founders of The Story Home children’s stories, a sixteen-year-old success story, and a global destination for original and classic children’s stories that delight, inspire, and educate. Alan is also the author of over forty original children’s stories and the beloved narrator for The Story Home. The Story Home offers classic and original children’s audio stories on the website, podcast, and albums.
Awarded the American Libraries Association “Outstanding Websites for Children” official Seal, The Story Home is now a learning resource for schools and libraries.
Alan and his wife Sharon live in Northern California and share a love of music, dance, and many creative projects. Alan has a daughter who is grown and lives in Southern California.
